Nakadia DJ in Koh Phangan
Hi thanks for the interview!
How many times have you played at the full moon party or Koh Phangan?
At the Full moon party I played only 2 times. One time in 2005, but I really did not like it at all, so I never went back there again. Only in March 2009 a promoter from Ibiza asks me so many times... in the end I did one more set at the FMP. That was actually a great one because I was not on the beach. I played on the rock, just next to the FMP on the hill, with a view over all the craziness. On my floor I played my style of music and step by step, all the music lovers find the way up to my party and it was really the best place to be on that night. The next day I had one of the most amazing parties of 2009 - at the backyard on Koh Phangan. The backyard was one of the best clubs of the world for me. Many great DJs played there just for fun and everybody loved it. The backyard parties after Full moon - that was the reason to go to Koh Phangan. But in September 2009 the backyard burned down and now they want to make bungalows there.
Feels good to play close to home?
Yes, I love to play on the islands. Every party is amazing. When I started to DJ it was very hard and no club wanted me. It totally changed and now I have some of the best parties of my life on Samui.
But you not really from Samui are you? No plans to go back to you real home?
Samui and Berlin is my home now. Sometimes I go visit my parents in Korat. It is nice for one or two days. But I cannot live there anymore. It not feels like home anymore also.
Has the full moon parties changed and how over the years?
It has changed a lot, but not to the good. The original Fullmoon parties had some great DJs and good music. That is all gone. The Djs who started the party don´t even play there anymore. The owners of the clubs asked them to play cheap commercial music, so they stopped to play. This is so sad. The music on the FMP is just terrible now. Any European guy that goes to Koh Phangan with some CDs can play there. Who comes first - plays first, Music or quality does not matter. It hurts my ears when I walk there. No other party in the world has so many hobby Djs and bad Djs play! The tourists love to go to the FMP to get drunk and go crazy. But for people who love music it is a disaster ;-)
If you could change anything on the full moon parties, what would it be?
The location and the name can be the same - all the rest I would change. The perfect beach festival is Kazantip - Koh Phangan could be like that, but it will never be.
Do you think there is a big problem with drugs on the full moon parties?
Yes. But not in a way what everybody think. There are a lot more other problems, but its better not to talk about it.
What´s the difference playing in Thailand and abroad?
It is a very big difference. In Thailand we dont have a music scene where people go to club to listen to good music. Most of the Thai people have no passion for music or anything, they just go out to meet friends or get drunk. Its not so much fun to play for people who dont understand music or dont care about music. In Europe the commercial clubs are the same like the clubs in Thailand, but I dont play at the commercial clubs anymore. The clubs where I play have different guest Djs every weekend and all these guests play different music - everyone has the own style. The parties in this clubs are really amazing. The people go totally crazy, it is very different to Thailand. The only place that is nearly same Europe for me is MINT on Koh Samui. There the people also come for my music and they also go crazy like the people in the cool clubs in Europe.
Where do you celebrate Christmas a New Year 2009?
Before the Christmas days I have some time to celebrate with friends at the German Christmas markets. These markets are great! On Christmas days I DJ in Holland, Germany and France. After that I will fly to Tunisia to play New Years Eve in Tunis. The first time NYE in Africa :-) The next day I fly from Tunis via Paris and Frankfurt back to Bangkok again, playing Demo on January 2. It´s a very busy week with 5 gigs in a row and a lot of miles!!
Wow that´s you probably beet Santa in that kind of flying!
What do you want for Christmas present?
I wish Native Instruments can send Santa a Control 1 already for my Christmas present ;-) (I hope the guys in Berlin read this ;-)
Any New Year promises?
I will produce more music in 2010!!! That will be my main goal for the New Year and I will work very hard on it.
Oki we wish you great success in 2010 and hope you have a Happy New year and get lots of noisy presents from Santa.
Thanx - same to you and all people reading this :-)
